Metal Manufacturing

Suppliers to the metal manufacturing market

As with any industrial sector, pumps are required throughout a vast number of stages within the steel and metal manufacturing process. Due to the varying performance requirements and fluids being handled, Castle Pumps supply a vast range of different pump types to the industry.

The metal manufacturing industry has extremely demanding conditions that equipment must withstand due to the high temperatures involved, the chemicals used and the presence of solids and abrasive media. Castle Pumps understand how vital it is for companies within such a sector to be able to rely on the pumping solutions they have in place, and that they meet the application requirements exactly.

Our pump range for the metal manufacturing industry

During the smelting and casting operations, molten metal must be transferred from one place to another for example from out of the furnace and into a casting machine. For such applications, gear pumps can be offered thanks to their high temperature and viscosity capabilities.

The steel and metal manufacturing industry also rely heavily on pumps for the disposable of industrial waste water. Due to the nature of the processes involved, there is often abrasive media and remnants contaminating the water, which means that only pumps capable of handling such solids can be used such as peristaltic and progressive cavity pumps.

The finishing process, where the metal is pickled with hydrochloric or sulphuric acid in order to remove any surface film and mill scale that is present, requires chemical pumps to be used at various stages. Most commonly, magnetic drive pumps are used due to the design eliminating the chances of leaking the aggressive fluid out.

Like any industrial plant, there is a significant amount of machinery and equipment used within the metal manufacturing process that needs to be lubricated and cooled. Lubrication and circulating pumps are therefore other types of pumps that are often supplied to the industry.
