Wastewater Pumps Page 2

Waste water pumps are used for a wide variety of dirty, or non-fresh, water applications including dewatering, lime water, raw water drainage and storm and flood water. By nature, waste water is usually contaminated and dirty, and therefore waste water transfer pumps need to be able to cope with some degree of solids depending upon what may be present in the application at hand. Examples include water drainage pumps for extracting water from rivers, lakes and reservoirs as well as surface water pumps for the pumping away of flood water.

Process waste water pumps are used to transfer water left over from a manufacturing or industrial process, which may contain small amounts of oil, chemical residue or small shards of metal or plastic. These waste water pumps are commonly of centrifugal or submersible design thanks to their high flow capabilities and ability to deal with a small amount of particles likely to be present. For more extreme waste water application such as the handling of sewage and on-site water, a peristaltic pump or progressive cavity pump is often a more popular choice due to the high level of solids of the pumping medium.
