Vertical inline centrifugal pumps, as their name implies, are single stage centrifugal pumps that are specifically designed for vertical installation. Vertical inline pumps can be constructed as close or long coupled units with back pull out design. To maintain a close coupled back pull out designed pump, the motor must be removed at which point the impeller and other parts can be accessed. With a long coupled back pull out design vertical inline centrifugal pump, there is a cover plate that is removed meaning the internal parts can be accessed and removed without removing the motor.
